Q1. If I mix the shades to colour my hair, can I save the unused portion of colour for my next retouch?

A1. Yes, you can save unused portions of the hair colour, but only if they have not been mixed with the developer. Keep them tightly capped in a cool, dark place for up to 6 weeks.

However, never, never save colour you have mixed with developer. Once it is mixed, contents may burst, so use it right away or toss it out. Also remember to never mix different brands of hair colour.

Q2. How long can I keep a box of hair colour before using it?

A2. If you don't open the bottles, your hair colour products will generally last 3 years.

Q3. How do I keep my hair colour vibrant and beautiful - and prevent fading?

A3. The first rule in keeping your colour looking great is to reapply as often as recommended according to the product you choose.

Use a shampoo and conditioner formulated for colour-treated hair. Avoid exposing your hair to the sun. Remember that the sun is a natural hair lightener, and over-exposure can cause hair to fade or even change colour.

Shampoo or rinse your hair immediately after swimming in chlorine or salt water. Chemicals left in the hair can accelerate fading, especially when mixed with the sun.

Q4. Can you colour your hair too often?

A4. Demi-Permanent (Level 2) hair colour will last up to 28 shampoos - if you wash your hair every day, that's about 4 weeks. Permanent (Level 3) hair colour should be refreshed when your roots start to show, about 4 -5 weeks. As long as you follow the instructions for root application only, you should not have any problems with colour build-up.
